From Kunda To Paalkova To Mawa: Hangyo Launches India’s Beloved Milk Cake Into A Year-Round Ice Cream – The Belgavi Kunda Ice Cream

Ask for it in Karnataka and it’s Kunda. In Tamil Nadu, it’s Paalkova. In Marathi-speaking homes, it’s Khava, and across much of North India, it’s Mawa. The name changes every few hundred kilometres, but the sweet remains the same. Hangyo turns this shared favourite into an ice cream with the launch of the Belagavi Kunda Ice Cream.

Fresh milk cake is a short-lived pleasure, usually best within about 48 hours. As ice cream, it can live in the freezer for longer, so a festive favourite becomes an everyday one. For anyone who grew up with a version of this sweet, wherever they are in India, it is a familiar taste in a new format.

Hangyo spent years balancing milk, sugar and milk solids so the ice cream carries the true texture and caramel depth of the original, rather than simply being flavoured “Kunda-style”. It is also the first in a planned range of traditional Indian sweets reimagined as ice cream.
